Spread out around Switzerland is a huge number of camp sites where you can become acquainted with a local phenomenon. In Switzerland there’s a law considering weekend chalets which points out that if the house in it’s primary construction is a caravan the owner do not need the same permissions and pay a higher price to set up a permanent “house” for vacation purposes.
The owners of this type of chalets do is to take of the wheels of the caravan and mount it on concrete sockets. Then they’ll erect a wooden construction to the surface of the caravan so that it will look partly or entirely as a wooden chalet and not as a mobile caravan. The owners of these chalets / the constructors use all their skills to transform the caravan to a chalet, and what happens is that the transformation from the pre-designed solid form of the caravan to a chalet look-a-like form creates a very interesting and rare amalgamation of the two physical states.
CaravanCabin is arranged as a documentation of this phenomenon. The series document the transformation between the two states and merging of forms and materials. The constructions /chalets are taken out of context and only presented in grey scale close-ups to focus on the way the two forms interacts and blends and to create a layer which questions whether the photographs themselves are constructions of differentiated images of forms/constructions to create a new form. A new detached world.
