Every time a student, researcher, or visitor enters AAU SUND, a plotter leaves a small mark of acrylic paint on the raw concrete wall in Building 12 near the main entrance. The work MURAL is controlled by an odds algorithm , determining in which of the 27,777 points, the plotter will leave its mark. One year, the jet sprays black paint, the next year white. Like a seismograph, MURAL registers, draws, and interprets life in the Faculty of Medicine in the form of a mural measuring thirty-three square metres.
The picture will take form over time. But rather than the clarity which researchers strive to create in graphs and diagrams, MURAL creates an abstraction of user interaction in AAU SUND. An ongoing emblem where the black and white colours alternately paint over each other in a process, which breaks down the earlier motif to create a new one. Like a never-ending experiment.
